Care & Action in Mental Health for Africa (CAMHA) is a Ghana-based non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to healthcare, led by a team of mental health professionals who are deeply committed to their work. CAMHA is dedicated to strengthening mental healthcare in Ghana by delivering community-focused health education, promoting mental health awareness, and providing timely crisis intervention for individuals experiencing acute mental health challenges. Our mission is to bridge gaps in access, reduce stigma, social inclusion and support the recovery and well-being of those affected by mental illness.

To build resilient and mentally empowered Ghanaian communities where every youth and adult has access to compassionate, culturally sensitive, and evidence-based mental health support that enables them to thrive, contribute meaningfully to society, and live with dignity.

CAMHA is dedicated to the holistic mental well-being of Ghanaian youth and adult populations. Our activities focus on prevention, early intervention, and long-term support, addressing the unique psychological, emotional, and social challenges that individuals face across urban and rural communities. We promote awareness, break stigma, and ensure equitable access to quality mental health services.

CAMHA takes a community-driven, inclusive approach to mental health. Our actions include:

  • Engaging Youth and Adults through peer support networks, community forums, and mental health education tailored to cultural realities.
  • Partnering with Local Stakeholders, including schools, churches, health workers, and traditional leaders, to embed mental wellness in everyday life.
  • Training and Empowering Mental Health Advocates to identify, refer, and support individuals in distress.
  • Promoting Accessible Services via mobile outreach, teletherapy, and localised care models in underserved regions.
  • Advocating for Policy Change to prioritise mental health funding, integrate services into primary care, and protect the rights of those living with mental illness.
